Proper goal setting is only one part of achieving your goals. Sometimes, I see people who are super-determined to achieve their goals, have all the coaches, programs and products lined up to help them do the work, only to find themselves being stuck at some point and unable to move forward to achieve what they set out to accomplish. Often times, they got stuck at the same place every time, no matter what different methods or approaches they try.
What is the missing ingredient? Turns out that mindset adjustments are an important component in creating and sustaining success. This applies to all aspects of life, and particularly critical if you are building a business as a solo-preneur.
There are many ways you can upgrade your mindset for success, and it heavily depends upon where you are as an individual. Here, I am going to share with you three simple upgrades that you can do right away to make a difference.
1. The 90/10 Rule. Some of us health coaches teach our clients this rule when it comes to creating healthy habits. It is also a great way of thinking for those hindered by perfectionism. You don’t have to do everything 100% all the time! Remember, if you keep tweaking your programs or products in your own little box, it will never be “perfect” because the product is not being “tested” by your target audience and you are not getting “real-world” feedback, so there is no way that it meets all of your market’s needs without a hiccup!
2. The Bigger Why. When you face challenges in making any changes or implementing new methods, and wanting to just go back to the old familiar way of doing things, ask yourself – what is costing you not to take action?
You need to go deep, and think not just the immediate consequences but keep asking “then what?” – tap into the emotions that come with the immediate outcome – that is the ultimate results that you want to create.
3. Subconscious Fear and Mental Blocks. If you have been trying to make changes to your life and your business, but are unable to make breakthroughs beyond a certain point, I invite you to dig deeper into what is holding you back. Maybe it’s not just the matter of willpower at the present moment that is preventing you from succeeding. You may have to do some work to see if any of your past experience is responsible for some limiting beliefs that are holding you back.
I recommend the book called “the Big Leap”. It talks about the concept of “upper-limiting”. Some people, when they achieve success, would do something to decrease their overall happiness, or self-sabotage. They think that they do not deserve the joy. Again, this is deeply rooted in your belief system and your early experience. I have it in the Store page on my health coaching website, and I encourage you to get the book if you want to dig deeper.
