My fav cycling instructor Reilly always tell us to get to the point where “the body feels broken” – you train, you break it, for it to recover stronger. You push to the point where you think you can’t, and you push further (that’s the place where the brain goes out of commission and Heart & Guts take over). You tell your body it’s ok to go there, because you recover and you don’t die.
Same thing with your mindset – with how you approach your business, and geez, your life. You have to destroy the old if you want to create something better.
Your identity, beliefs, decisions, actions, environment – if you hold onto, and keep doing, the stuff that is producing what you are experiencing, you can’t expect different outcomes to happen (ok, except maybe in your yoga practice.)
The five things I listed above – they all support your spirit/soul/higher self/god self – whatever you call YOU. If they are not in alignment, you don’t produce the best results.
Are you willing to step into becoming the person you want to be? How are you labeling yourself? What are you describing yourself as? If you can’t fully embrace who you are and what you stand for, how can you expect others to support your success? (Plus, if you get this part down, you can become a Natural in marketing)
What current identity you need to let go of, in order to become the YOU you want to be?
“If you believe you can, you are right. If you believe you can’t, you are right.”
Challenge what you think is “right”, “that’s how things work”, “that’s how it’s supposed to be.” Question your “I can’t…”, “I have to… then I can…”, “I don’t have xyz to achieve abc.”
The trick is, limiting beliefs, fears and false assumptions can appear so freaking real when they are yours! Have someone supportive to challenge you lovingly, and promise yourself to get CURIOUS, not defensive. Even saying it out loud to yourself and just observe (no judgment!) can change your perspective.
We have CHOICE. Make decisions based on the CHOICE that will take you closer to your goals and aspirations. Your decisions are influenced by your identity and your beliefs – so get those in alignment and you will make the decisions to serve your highest good.
Indecisiveness can be an energy drain. I used to find myself stuck in paralysis analysis – trying to gather all the facts and do all the math before making a decision. It not only took up a lot of precious time and energy, it also caused me some growth opportunities because I was not able to say “yes” when I had to.
Sometimes we just have to go with our Heart & Guts and trust our intuition. That little nudge, that feeling of “knowing”. And run with it. Make a decision, tell the Universe “YES”.
It is obvious that your identity, beliefs and decisions affect your actions. But we are often less aware that our actions give us the “feedback” that reinforce or change our identity, beliefs and decisions.
Sometimes taking action is the shortcut to change. Instead of journaling till you are blue about your identity and beliefs, just TAKE THE ACTION based on who you want to be (your desired identity), and LIVE as that YOU. Your beliefs and decisions will have to follow.
People and things around you reflect how you see and treat yourself. Your environment not only refers to your physical surroundings – it also includes your virtual world and people around you. (see how to detox your physical and virtual environment here; and how to detox your client and business relationships here).
If you have to fight your surroundings every time you take action, you are swimming upstream/ paddling uphill against the wind – it drains your energy and makes it that much harder to get where you want to go.
Don’t be a hero – take the path of least resistance by saying “no” to environment that doesn’t support your growth and success.
What Do All These Have To Do With You, As a Coach?
A lot. A whole lot.
To be a good coach, you need to help your clients get results. Getting results and sustaining them involves more than “how-to’s” and have a load to do with upgrading the mindset, overcome fear and recognizing limiting beliefs.
You can take your clients only as far as you are willing to go.
If you are not willing to let go of whatever that doesn’t serve your growth, go through the process and experience the burn, you don’t have the rights to ask your clients to jump off the deep end and you can’t be there for them when they come out from the other side.
