8 Questions To Find Out What Your Target Market Wants

Whether you are developing your marketing materials, an information product, or a coaching program, the most important thing is to find out what your target market wants so that your product/service provides the solution and you sales copy grab their attention, speak to their desires and convince them that your products/services are exactly what they need to solve their problems.

To gather a large number of response in a short period of time, online survey is a great way to go. However, it’s always good to pick a few loyal fans and have a conversation with them – on phone or in person – for about 15-20 minutes to find out in much greater details, and IN THEIR OWN WORDS – what they really want. Make sure you take a lot of notes – including the way they communicate and word their problems and desires, because if you use their wordings, they will feel that you really understand their challenges.

Here are 8 questions to ask when you are having such target market research conversations. Try to keep the questions open-ended, so that they are not led into saying what you may expect:

  • What frustrates you the most about your health and your life right now?
    (You can modify this a bit to suit your niche, but don’t try to lead them too much – you’ll get biased answers.)
  • If you could wave a magic wand to solve any problem around your health and wellbeing, what would you change?
  • What is the impact of these problems? How are they affecting you and your life?
  • What are you trying to accomplish this year/in the next 6 months?
  • What is your plan to achieve this?
  • What strategies have you tried to improve your health and happiness that worked, and didn’t work (get both)?
  • If you were to hire someone to help you solve this problem, what are two tangible results you would like to experience as a result of working with him/her?
  • What would the person need to be able to prove to you that would make it worth your investment?
